WBS, Walailak University Partners with James Cook University (Australia) for Sustainable Tourism and Community Learning in Krabi
KRABI – From June 26–28, 2026, faculty members and students from the Digital Marketing and Branding Program, School of Management, Walailak University (WU), warmly welcomed exchange students from James Cook University (JCU), Australia. Together, they embarked on an experiential field trip to Krabi province to explore Community-Based Tourism (CBT) and Sustainable Tourism concepts through hands-on learning and cross-cultural exchange.
Over the three-day program, students engaged in a variety of immersive activities designed to cover all dimensions of sustainable hospitality and eco-tourism:
-
Eco-Tourism & Ecosystem Exploration: The journey began with kayaking at Klong Root (Clear Water Canal), where students observed a thriving local ecosystem and learned about conservation-focused tourism practices.
-
Cultural Heritage & Local Wisdom: The delegation visited the Andaman Bead Museum to study the ancient trade history of the Southern peninsula. They then traveled to the Baan Na Teen Community to learn how to make “Khanom Thum Phlong” and other traditional local snacks, showcasing how cultural preservation can drive community income.
-
Green Hospitality Management: The team conducted a site study on eco-friendly business operations at Ao Nang Princeville Villa Resort & Spa. They were honored by Ms. Kusuma Kinglek, the Managing Director, who shared her valuable insights on managing a luxury resort under the “Green Hotel” and sustainable tourism frameworks.
-
Tracing Historical Roots: Before concluding the trip, students visited the Wat Klong Thom Museum and the Khuan Luk Pat Archaeological Site to study ancient artifacts that highlight Krabi’s historical significance as a major ancient maritime trading and cultural hub.
This collaborative initiative represents another successful milestone for the program in integrating eco-tourism, community empowerment, cultural preservation, and sustainable business management. Beyond learning from real-world entrepreneurs and communities, the experience equips students with cross-cultural teamwork skills and a global mindset, preparing them to become visionary professionals in the international arena.
