Walailak Business School, Walailak University Celebrates Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan’s Inscription as UNESCO World Heritage Site

The School of Management, Walailak University, extends its warmest congratulations and takes immense pride in celebrating Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, on its official inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This historic landmark marks the first UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Site in Southern Thailand and the 9th World Heritage Site in Thailand, highlighting the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) of Thai cultural heritage recognized on the global stage.

This monumental achievement stems from the dedication and collaboration of all sectors—including government agencies, academic institutions, local communities, and networks of experts—who jointly drove conservation efforts, heritage management, and nomination dossier preparation.

On this occasion, the School of Management, Walailak University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pimlapat Pongsakornrungsilp, Dean of the School of Management, along with the faculty working group, actively contributed to the World Heritage nomination process by developing key academic policy and management documents, including:

  • Disaster and Human-Induced Risk Management Plan for Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province

  • Cultural Heritage Tourism Management Plan for Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province

Furthermore, the team assisted in formulating academic clarifications and responding to technical queries raised by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) evaluation panel, providing vital support throughout UNESCO’s deliberation process until its successful inscription.

The School of Management remains fully committed to leveraging its expertise in management, sustainable tourism, and research to advance cultural preservation, promote high-quality tourism, and create long-term value for local communities and the nation.

From the pride of Nakhon Si Thammarat to a treasured heritage for all humanity.
