Research Institute, School of Management, Walailak University, holds the development of research projects for driving the excellence of the School. The research institute, under the leadership of Assistant Professor Dr. Pimlapas Pongsakornsirisophon, the acting head of the institute, organized activities to support the research development of lecturers in the School of Management on July 22-23, 2023. This event sought to encourage interdisciplinary research collaborations that yield both commercial benefits and community development. Notably, the collaboration involved five faculties, namely the School of Nursing, School of Public Health, School of Science, School of Management, and School of Information Technology. Distinguished speakers Khun Sunantha Sompong, an advisor from the National Research Council of Thailand, and Khun Kanokwan Khannop, provided valuable insights into research development and strategies for practical application during the event hosted by the School of Management. Moreover, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, the President of Walailak University, delivered an inspiring address, encouraging researchers from all five faculties and outlining supportive policies to drive the university’s research projects. This motivated the participating researchers to present their research proposals, aligning their work with the university’s mission. The School of Management places significant emphasis on producing internationally recognized research and endeavors to contribute to local and business development. Presently, numerous research projects have yielded practical applications, including the establishment of a sustainable carbon-neutral tourism network in Krabi province, the development of long-stay tourism, digital nomad tourism, and health and wellness tourism. Regional Research Expo 2023
Regional Research Expo 2023 On June 28, 2023, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) organized the “Regional Research Expo 2023” under the theme “Research and Innovation for Sustainable Development: Southern Thailand Model.” The event took place in collaboration with Walailak University, with the School of Management being one of the four schools invited to hold an academic conference on the topic of “High-Value Economic and Business Development Aspects of Sustainability in the Southern of Thailand” at Room 213, Building 6 (ST), Walailak University. During the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siwarit Pongsakornrungsilp, Acting Dean of the School of Management, invited Asst.Prof.Supawadee Photiyarach, from Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), to deliver the opening speech and keynote presentation on the topic of “Driving the Economy through Utilizing Research Benefits.” This was accompanied by activities focusing on driving the economy and high-value businesses with technology and innovation based on the research work of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). Asst.Prof.Dr. Annop Thasanudom, the Innovation House Awards: All Stars Researcher, presented on the topic of “The Role of Research and Commercial Development in Local Economic Development Based on Identity.” Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siwarit Pongsakornrungsilp, Acting Dean of the School of Management, presented on the topic of “Creative Economic Development to Increase Product Value through Branding.” The School of Management, Walailak University, expressed its appreciation to Dr. Sukhuman Klamsaengsai for moderating the event and facilitating meaningful discussions on the topic. Venue: Walailak Culinary Training Center (WCTC) Academic services for social engagement, School of Management Walailak University held the Sanitation & Food Safety Training Workshop for Local Restaurants in Thasala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat at Walailak Culinary Training Center on May 19, 2023. This training course, as part of a series of School of Management’s social engagement Initiatives on Capability and Standard Enhancement of Gastronomy Tourism in Thasala District, Nakhon Sri Thammarat Province, aimed at supporting and promoting local restaurants and cafés to be aware of and/or complied with the sanitary and food safety standards, implemented by Ministry of Public Health. All the 20 participants learned both theoretical and practical lessons on factors and risks on sanitary and food safety, food contamination and poisoning, and individually involved in testing food and raw materials with possible contaminations; which could be applied for their daily operations after completing this training course. This training course was instructed by Mr. Pavit Tansakul, Chairman of Professional Culinary Arts Program. Coastal Tourism Destination Development in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province: Thasala, Sichon and Khanom Districts School of Management, Walailak University has launched a new initiative in 2022 – enhancement of tourism capability and standards for development of coastal destinations in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province: Thasala, Sichon and Khanom Districts. This academic service for local communities focused on education and enhancement of life quality by dedicating counseling, advising and transferring services of knowledge and innovation in the fields of marketing, logistics, tourism and professional culinary arts to support and promote collaboration among local entrepreneurs, communities, and local residents in sustaining their well-being of economic, social, cultural and natural environments. School of Management integrates multidisciplinary fields of knowledges and academic faculties for tourist destinations development and capability enhancement. Especially, the coastal resources, which have become attraction and natural resources creating income for local communities; enhancement of tourism capability and standards for development of coastal tourism destinations in Thasala, Sichon and Khanom districts, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province is essential to be readily capable for attracting and accommodating tourists during and after covid-19 pandemic. This academic service activity also initiates a collaborative networking among participants from different tourism sectors. Also, the school directly listens to and acknowledges the needs of local entrepreneurs, communities, and relevant organizations which are significant in providing academic services and research opportunities in the future. The initiative of coastal tourism destination development in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province consists of two objectives, including: (1) to brainstorm the ideas and issues related to development of coastal tourism destination in Nakhon Si Thammarat and enhancement of tourism standards; and (2) to promote and enhance the capability and standard of tourism for coastal destination development in Nakhon Si Thammarat 6 key activities. Lecturer from School of Management, Walailak University have traveled to Berlin, Germany and Prague, Czech Republic to promoted the Southern Gulf of Thailand tourism.
Assistance Prof. Dr. Phattarawan Tantong Lecturer from Business Administration, School of Management, project leader of “The use of brands and identities of tourist destinations in southern Gulf of Thailand as a guideline for tourism marketing for Thai and foreign tourists.” have attended International Tourism Borse (ITB 2018) which has been held from 7-11 March 2018 in Berlin, the Federal Republic of Germany. The project leader has reported on the activity and progress of the project to the Minister of Tourism and Sports. Delegation team member has coordinated and cooperated with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Samui Branch and Surat Thani Branch, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Prague office and the Tourism Promotion Association of Koh Samui. For this trip. Project activities have distributed potential tourism brochures in the southern Gulf of Thailand. 10 tourist destinations in 5 provinces are Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Songkhla. In the topic “10 Wonders in Ao Thai – Gulf of Thailand” The project leader has handed in brochure and online information to promoted tourism to representatives of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in Europe such as Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Office Frankfurt, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), office of Prague and the office of International trade Promotion at Prague. This will help European tourists get to know and interested in other tourist attractions in the Gulf of Thailand than Koh Samui. As a result, this project aims to increase revenue and create competitive advantage for the southern Gulf of Thailand. Asst.Prof.Dr. Phattarawan Tantong received research grant from the Bureau of the Budget in 2018 through Walailak University total of 4,170,000 Baht (four million one hundred seventy thousand Baht). Walailak Management School Hosted The 2nd Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Conference and SAMUI MODEL Sharing Day
Dr. Suphat Jumpathong, Secretary General of Office of Higher Education, Ministry of Education gave his speech on “policy & implementation of Work-Integrated Learning for Employability & Engagement”, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somnuk Aujirapongpan presented his special lecture on “Innovative Education Management for Work Integrated learning School” in the 2nd Work Integrated Learning Conference: Employability & Engagement. This national conference was an integral part of the 26th anniversary of Walailak University, held at Walailak Unviersity and Samui Island on March 26-27, 2018. Dr. Rungrawee Jitpakdee, Associate Dean of Walailak Management School and Head of the Work Integrated Learning Network of Universities and Establishments in the Upper-southern Region reported to Prof. Dr. Tawadchai Suppadit, Acting Dean of Walailak Management School and President of Opening Ceremony about the success of this conference that 160 participants registered to attend this event, and 36 research and academic articles from 29 educational institutes and companies were accepted (through blind review) to orally present to the audience. The article entitled “Implementation Strategies of Work Integrated Learning Strategies for Higher Education Institutes in Thailand, written by Dr. Alongkot Yawai and colleagues, was awarded for the best paper. In addition, 60 participants decided travel to Samui for the field trip of SAMUI MODEL sharing activities. Another group of 30 participants from top management and representatives of WIL establishments and cooperative students in Samui attended this event. The activities on the SAMUI MODEL SHARING DAY (Mar 27, 2018) consisted of experience sharing and on-site learning from industrial partners.
